A summary of Herbert Mills' impressive list of accomplishments:

Herb holds a B.A in Geology from Vanderbilt University and an M.S. in Geological Engineering from North Carolina State.   His 40-year career as the Curator of Geology for the Nassau County Museums Division began with the development of the initial exhibits and programs at the Garvies Point Museum & Preserve.  He was also instrumental in management and program development for the Sands Point Preserve that included curating the many highly popular dinosaur exhibits that in 20+ years attracted over 2 million visitors.  Concurrently, Herb served as supervisor of all the county natural history museums and nature preserves including Leeds Pond Preserve where he was the County coordinator with the Science Museum of Long Island.  He was also active in research in the field of Long Island geology, especially focusing on glacial and post-glacial events, and has been published in national and regional journals.  He was active for many years as a board member of the Nassau County Soil & Water District and the North Shore Heritage Trail Alliance.   Upon his county retirement in 2006, Herb has been an active board member of PWGreen and a volunteer at Garvies Point Museum where he teaches geology programs to school-age kids. He also taught geology for six years as an Adjunct Asst. Professor at Dowling College, and is currently teaching at Nassau Community College.   Herb, his wife, Donna and son Paul (18) are avid travelers whose journeys have spanned six continents.
